DESIGN, CONTROL, AND APPLICATIONS OF A THREELEVEL CASCADED H-BRIDGE MULTILEVEL INVERTE

Abstract

Abstract: The paper presents an overview of the 3L-CHB MLI, which is a power electronic circuit used to convert DC to ACpower at a specific voltage level. The 3L-CHB MLI utilizes an H-bridge topology that can produce multiple levels of output voltage, and its cascaded configuration enables the creation of even more levels. The primary advantage of this type of inverter is its ability to reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output voltage, leading to improved overall power performance. However, successful design and implementation require careful consideration of critical design criteria, including voltage level,switching frequency, harmonic distortion, power rating, control strategy, size and weight, reliability, cost, and safety. The main objective of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the 3L-CHB MLI and its potential benefits for medium to highvoltage applications.KEYWORDS: CHB-MLI, ac/dc power, Voltage level, Thd, H bridge, loss calculation, driver circuit
