LoadFrequency Control for Two-Area Power System Considering GDB and GRCNonlinearities with RFB and TCPS
Abstract
Abstract— This paper proposes Load Frequency Control(LFC) of a two-area thermal reheat power systemconsidering Governor Dead-Band (GDB) andGeneration Rate Constraints (GRC) nonlinearities. Thesimultaneously presence of GDB and GRC, even withsmall load perturbation, the system becomes highlynonlinear and hence the optimization problem becomesrather complex. The quality of frequency and tie-linepower responses reflect the time error and inadvertentinterchanges respectively. Simple integral controllers areused in the LFC loop and the controller gains areoptimized with Genetic Algorithm optimizationtechnique. The proposed controller has been applied tothe two-area interconnected power system withcoordinated control action from Redox Flow Battery(RFB) and Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifter (TCPS) inorder to achieve a better transient as well as steady stateresponse and improved stability of the system.Simulation results reveal that the proposed controllerwith the coordinated control action between HES andTCPC units greatly reduces the over shoot/under shootof the frequency deviations and tie- line power flowdeviation. Moreover it reduces the control inputrequirements and the settling time of the outputresponses also reduced considerably.Keywords: Governor Dead-Band, Generation RateConstraints, Load Frequency Control, Redox Flow Batteryand Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifter.
