Abstract: A bearing is a machine element that constrains relativemotion to only the desired motion, and reduces friction between movingparts. Development of manufacturing technology, rotating machinerybecomes increasingly powerful with higher and higher rotation speed. Fluidlubricated journal bearings are widely used in large rotating machinery becauseof its low cost, long life, silent operation, and high radial precision andsimple application. In this work journal bearings for L/D ratio and differenteccentricity ratios are modelled in 3D modelling software CATIA. The L/D ratioconsidered is 0.5 and eccentricity ratios considered are 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8.The liquid lubricants considered are SAE 20 oil, SAE 40 oil. Journal bearingmodels are developed for speed of 2000 rpm to study the interaction between thefluid and elastic behaviour of the bearing. The speed is the input for CFDanalysis and the pressure obtained from the CFD analysis is taken as input forstructural analysis. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and fluid structureinteraction (FSI) is done in Ansys.
