The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly evolving, with applications spanning across smart cities, healthcare, agriculture, and transportation. However, as the number of connected devices grows exponentially, IoT systems face two critical challenges: ensuring secure communication and optimizing energy consumption. Data routing plays a pivotal role in addressing these challenges, as it determines the path that data takes from its source to its destination. This paper explores the state-of-the-art secure and energy-efficient data routing algorithms in IoT communication systems. By examining existing approaches, we aim to identify trade-offs, challenges, and emerging trends in the design of routing protocols that balance both security and energy efficiency.
